December 19
Christmas Relays (San Francisco, CA)
Both the women’s team and men’s team enjoyed victories, with a second men’s team also placing fifth. Women’s team was comprised of Jeannette Mathieu, Maya Weigel, Jen Vucinich, and Susan Aneno for an average pace of 5:44 over the 4.46 mi loop x4. The first men’s team order was Rafal Matuszczak to Chris Olley, Steven Grolle to Matt Lenehan. Matt Lenehan doubled back to the winning team after following Benedikt Bünz as the second runner on Team 2. He was then followed by Sebastian Hanson and Donald Taggart.

December 11
USATF Club Cross Country Championships (Tallahassee, FL)

Maya Weigel took 5th place individually in the women’s race, while Christine Hoffmann and Sarah Gayer gained valuable experience at their first time in this competition. The men’s team took 12th of over 30 teams, led by Miles Smith and Trevor Halsted in 53rd and 56th place. Jason Intravaia was 80th, while Matt Lenehan almost broke the top 100 6 days after running CIM. Steven Grolle and Kevin Bishop completed our lineup on a hot and humid day.

Benedikt Bünz took second at the festive fixture.

La Jolla 5K (La Jolla CA)
Donald Taggart won the race.

December 5
California International Marathon (Sacramento, CA)
Matt Lenehan improved his personal best to 2;17:02 in a 13th place performance. Vitor Rodrigues broke 2:30 for the first time in 2:29:53. Cody Goodwin debuted in 2;37. Jen Vucinich nailed a huge PR, running 2:45, while Victoria O’Neil ran 2:52 and Morgan Meade debuted in 3:03. Mara Olson was forced to drop late in the race while on sub-2:40 pace, while Matt Leach paced eventual winner Brendan Gregg through the half at 1:04:59.

November 25
Lenny and Joe’s Madison Turkey Trot 8K (Madison, CT)
Brendon Fish won this hometown race.

Lifetime Turkey Trot Chicago 8K (Chicago, IL)
Matt Leach earned the victory.

Nitro Turkey Trot 10K (Pinole, CA)
Rafal and Weronika Matuszczak each broke the tape with course records,

Huntington Turkey Trot (Huntington, NY)
Danielle Katz was runner-up among females.

Dana Point Turkey Trot 5K (Dana Point, CA)
Donald Taggart took 2nd place.

Napa Turkey Chase 10K (Napa, CA)
Dena Evans was the second female overall and 40+ winner.

Thanksgiving Day 5K (Stephens City, VA)
Jeannette Mathieu won in her hometown county.

San Francisco Turkey Trot (San Francisco, CA)
Benedikt Bünz took fourth in the 5 mile race.

ARM Gobble Wobble 5K (San Mateo, CA)
Kevin Bishop and Steven Grolle finished 1-2, while Tom Tayeri earned a top 10 overall and age group win, and Sarah Gayer was third female.

CCRR Turkey Chase 4 Miler (Corpus Christi, TX)
Zach Swenson was the runner-up finisher.

Oakland Turkey Trot (Oakland, CA)
Brent Varga was top 10 in in his first race in nearly 2 years.

Run to Feed the Hungry (Sacramento, CA)
Courtney Heiner and Josh Gruver both participated in this local holiday classic.

November 21st
PAUSATF Cross Country Championships (San Francisco, CA)
The women’s team won the championship for the 9th time in the last 11 years, led by Maya Weigel, our 10th different individual champion. Weronika Matuszczak was a strong third in her team debut, while Amy Schnittger was 4th. Susan Aneno and Jeannette Mathieu completed the scoring for the team with Christine Hoffmann and Sarah Gayer in support. On the men’s side, Matt Leach in fourth led a strong second place team effort with Matt Lenehan and Trevor Halsted finishing in the top 10. They were followed closely by Greg Billington and Miles Smith to complete the scoring. Steven Grolle and Kevin Bishop fought for displacing spots as our 6th and 7th runners.

November 7
TCS New York Marathon (New York, NY)

Tom Tayeri won the 55+ age groups by nearly 10 minutes at 2:46, only three minutes off his London Marathon performance the month previous.

The 111th Dipsea Race (Mill Valley, CA)
Sarah Gayer and Vitor Rodrigues both raced this Bay Area trail classic for the first time, with Vitor winning a coveted black t-shirt in 19th place.

November 6
Abbott Dash to the Finish 5K (New York, NY)

Brendon Fish finished in the top 40 as he busted some rust on the roads.

October 30
Megacross Inter-club International XC (Cambridge, United Kingdom)
Matt Leach was a close runner-up in this Cambridge Hare and Hounds vs Alumni event.

October 29
Battle of the Bay 5K (Oakland, CA)
Jason Intravaia secured a podium spot in third in this nighttime, underground race. Danielle Katz unfortunately ended up off course with some of the field and wasn’t able to capitalize on some early competitive placing.

October 23
Matt Yeo Aggies XC Open / PAUSATF GP (Martinez, CA)
Maya Weigel and Amy Schanz went 1-2, as the team scorers all finished in the top 15 (Christine Hoffmann, Caitlin Chrisman, and Sarah Gayer) and the women took home the W. Trevor Halsted continued his strong campaign with a 6th place finish (5th place PA).

October 14
Naval Air Station Corpus Christi Navy Birthday 5K (Corpus Christi, TX)
Zach Swenson outran the competition, both at his installation in 87 degrees + humidity, as well as in the entire Southeast region of the Navy.

October 11
Boston Marathon (Boston, MA)
Dena Evans notched her fastest time since 2014 with a 3:18 result.

October 10
John Lawson Tamalpa Classic XC / PAUSATF GP (China Camp, CA)
Trevor Halsted snatched his second straight individual win, while Amy (Schnittger) Schanz raised the curtain on her fall season with a runner-up finish, Jeannette Mathieu was sixth, and Sarah Gayer had her post-collegiate debut in 20th.

Bank of America Chicago Marathon (Chicago, IL)
Jen Vucinich weathered some tough miles over the second half to squeak out a very narrow personal best.

October 9
Murfreesboro Half Marathon (Murfreesboro, TN)
Cody Goodwin earned 2nd place in his age group as he preps for future long races this fall.

Balboa Park Boogie 5K (San Diego, CA)
Donald Taggart was 13th place.

October 3
Virgin Money London Marathon (London, United Kingdom)
Matt Leach earned a personal and club best by two minutes as he finished 9th overall. Tom Tayeri had his third best time ever, taking home sixth in the World Marathon Majors Age Group Championships for the 55-59 age group. Vitor Rodrigues finished with a huge lifetime best of 2:31.

San Jose Rock ‘n’ Roll Half Marathon (San Jose, CA)
Brian Hicks was 12th overall and Morgan Meade won the 25-29 age group at the always competitive local fixture.

September 26
BMW Berlin Marathon (Berlin, Germany)
Matt Lenehan finished as the top competitor from the United States (35th overall) on a warm and humid day.

September 25
Garin Park XC / PAUSATF GP (Hayward, CA)
Trevor Halsted notched his first individual win of the season, while Christine Hoffmann finished 6th as she continues a strong overall campaign.

Crazy Eights 5K (Rancho Bernardo, CA)
Donald Taggart had a top 30 performance.

September 12
Golden Gate Open XC / PAUSATF GP (San Francisco, CA)
The women’s team, led by Mara Olson in third, narrowly edged SRA Elite for the team victory, while the men’s team, led by Trevor Halsted in 7th, finished a solid runner-up to Aggies.

September 19
San Francisco Marathon Half (San Francisco, CA)
Jeannette Mathieu finished 2nd in the half marathon event.

August 28
Alameda 10 Miler (Alameda, CA)

Huge day for the team as Matt Leach (48:08), Jason Intravaia (49:24), and Matt Lenehan (50:14) all surpassed the previous club best. Brian Hicks had a big PR of 53:42, while Tom Tayeri also had a strong race in the 55+ for 58:00. On the women’s side, Jen Vucinich took the win in 59:20 while Morgan Meade earned 4th place in her club debut.

Phil Widener Empire XC Open (Santa Rosa, CA)
Trevor Halstead (2nd), Christine Hoffman (3rd), and Kevin Bishop (6th) helped kick off the 2021 cross country season for the team.

August 15
America’s Finest City Half Marathon (San Diego, CA)

Jason Intravaia won his first half marathon at the traditionally competitive event.

Ed Murphey Classic (Memphis, TN)
Brendon Fish was fifth in a season best over 800m and Zach Swenson took eighth in his 1500m heat, with his third best time ever.

August 8
Volcanic 25K (Cougar, WA)

Brian Hicks had a top-10 finish and a second place return in the 20-29 AG.

TransRockies Run (Buena Vista, CO)

Cody Goodwin earned runner-up honors over the 6 day, 120+ mile mountain running event.

American Track League (Azusa, CA)

Josh Sealand was hoping to break 4 in the Mustache Mile, but fell a bit short in his last race of the track season.

Penn Relays Summer Series (Philadelphia, PA)
Brendon Fish took third place in the 800m and Benedikt Bünz took 7th in the Mile.

July 17
Fete du Lacs Festival 8K (Centerville, MN)

Mara Olson earned the win in her first race of the summer.

Aquathlon National Championships (Long Beach, CA)
Trevor Halsted won the title.

July 10
Sound Running Sunset Tour (Trabuco Hills, CA)
Josh Sealand continued to chip away at his 800m, coming within .6 of his lifetime best. Benedikt Bünz paced.

July 4th
Freedom Fest 5K / PAUSATF Grand Prix (Morgan Hill, CA)
Trevor Halsted and Christine Hoffman earned victories in this return to the PA circuit. Benedikt Bünz doubled back for an Open 3rd place, with Andrew Roos 12th, while Melinda DiNapoli and Dena Evans were 13th and 20th overall on the women’s side.

July 3
All-America Mile (Rancho Cordova, CA)
Josh Sealand took 1st, with Benedikt Bünz third and Donald Taggart Open division champ in the first year event, organized by our own Josh Gruver.

Downtown Mile (Flagstaff, AZ)
Jason Intravaia took home 7th place in a stacked field.

June 26
US Olympic Track & Field Team Trials (Eugene, OR)
Maya Weigel finished 26th in her first Olympic Trials 10,000m (after being seeded 38th of 41 starters).

British Athletics Championships / Olympic Trials (Manchester, UK)
Chris Olley earned 10th place in the 5000m, while Matt Leach took 15th after a hard fall mid-race.

June 19
Garry Bjorklund Half Marathon (Duluth, MN)
Mara Olson finished 4th place.

June 5
European 10,000m Cup / British Olympic 10,000m Trials (Birmingham, UK)
Matt Leach helped Team GB to a second silver medal in as many attempts, as he finished 4th among British athletes and 13th overall in his third selection to this international competition. Matt was just a second off his personal best at 28:22.

June 3
Stumptown Twilight (Portland, OR)
3 second lifetime best for Zach Swenson in the 1500 and another season best for Josh Sealand in the 800m. Benedikt Bünz paced both heats, while Steven Grolle closed out his season in the 1500m and Chris Olley competed in the 5000m.

May 29
NorCal Distance Carnival (Rocklin, CA)
Trevor Halsted won the 5000m, paced by Brian Hicks, who had taken 7th in the 1500m earlier. Donald Taggart competed in both races as well.

May 28-29
Portland Track Festival (Portland, OR)
Three 1500m lifetime bests for Steven Grolle, Josh Sealand, and Chris Olley highlighted the meet, while Jen Vucinich debuted in the 10,000m, and Benedikt Bünz competed in the 1500m

May 22
Bishop High Sierra Ultras 20 miler (Bishop, CA)
Cody Goodwin won the (really 21 mile) 20 mile event with 2500+ of vertical.

May 14-15
Sound Running Track Meet (Irvine, CA)
Maya Weigel hit another Olympic Trials mark in the 10,000m, while Matt Leach registered his second best time ever in the 10,000m. Chris Olley also competed in the 5000m.

Azusa Pacific Last Chance (Azusa, CA)
Josh Sealand had a lifetime best in the 1500, followed by a 2021 season best in the 800m the following night. Steven Grolle won his heat of the 1500, with Benedikt Bünz nearly equaling his season best and Brian Hicks posting a spring debut in the same event, before both also competing in the 800m. Donald Taggart and Jason Intravaia also competed in the 5000m, with Donald notching a lifetime best.

May 8
West Coast Distance Carnival (Livermore, CA)
Josh Sealand won the 1500m gun to wire as Steven Grolle closed hard for 4th place. New PRs for Jen Vucinich (5000m) and JJ Escalera (800m), while Trevor Halsted also opened his track season in the 5000m.

May 2
World Marathon Majors Global Marathon (Virtual)
Tom Tayeri earned 7th worldwide and 1st by nearly 10 minutes in the 55-59 age group with a 2:39 clocking.

April 30
West Coast Relays (Clovis, CA)
Lifetime bests for Maya Weigel (15:42 in 5000m), Matt Leach (3:44 in 1500m), and JJ Escalera (2:14 in 800m). Seasonal improvement for Chris Olley in the 1500, a near PR for Benedikt Bünz in the same event, and competitive track opener for Jason Intravaia in the 5000m. Steven Grolle and Josh Sealand also competed in the 5000 and 1500 respectively.

April 25
Land Park 5K/ 1 Mile (Sacramento, CA)
Jason Intravaia won both the 5K and 1 mile events with Trevor Halsted earning 4th place in both events as well. Jen Vucinich set a new road best of 17:20 in the 5K for third place on the women’s side, while Donald Taggart also enjoyed a personal 5K best and Brian Hicks had a seasonal improvement. Josh Gruver competed in the mile for the first time in 2021.

April 16
Bryan Clay Invitational (Azusa, CA)

Josh Sealand won his 800m heat, while Benedikt Bünz took third in his race.

April 2
Stanford Invitational (Stanford, CA)
Competition returned to Cobb Track & Angell Field, as Matt Leach set a lifetime best in the 5000m. Josh Sealand had a seasonal best in the 1500m while Chris Olley opened his 2021 season with 6th place in the same event. Steven Grolle competed in the 10,000m, while JJ Escalera and Brianna Maroney raced the 800m.

March 28
Spring Forward Half Marathon (Folsom, CA)
Amy Schnittger won her first in person race since 2020 Olympic Trials. Jen Vucinich was third with a 1:19 PR. Brian Hicks was top 10 on the men’s side.

Clermont Elite Sprint Cup (Clermont, FL)
Kevin Bishop earned a top 10 in his first triathlon of the year.
